1 Dead, 2 Hurt in Air Force T-38 Crash at Texas Base: Report

A military jet engaged in training on Friday crashed shortly after takeoff from an airfield in western Texas, killing one of the pilots and injuring two others, officials said.

At a press conference in West Texas, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland said the pilot, Capt. Joe W. Goode, 31, of Sour Lake, died in the mishap. He was the only person on board the aircraft.

The crash happened at 3:30 a.m. local time at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, located outside of San Antonio.

One of the two parachuting victims suffered serious injuries. A second parachuting victim was uninjured.

Officials said a crash investigator was on the scene.

The T-38 aircraft was making a routine training flight, Lackland said.
