Ford Motor Company has agreed to a new global sourcing deal with Intel that for the first time will provide Intel modem chips – primarily Wi-Fi-certified modems for connected vehicles – to the Ford family of vehicles. The new agreement makes Intel the automotive supplier of choice for Ford’s next-generation network of wireless connectivity with more than 2 million vehicles built around the world.
This partnership marks an important step in our efforts to ensure our vehicle electronics are made in the United States by American workers.
“This partnership marks an important step in our efforts to ensure our vehicle electronics are made in the United States by American workers,” said Matt VanDyke, Ford vice president of Global Electrical and Electronics Engineering. “Being able to use Intel’s gigabit Wi-Fi Wi-Fi modem chips on this important project will make a huge difference in our effort to deliver secure, secure connectivity for our customers in cars. We’re excited to once again partner with Intel.”
“This deal demonstrates our continued commitment to supporting automotive electronics and Ford’s commitment to secure automotive connectivity,” said Diane Bryant, senior vice president and general manager, Intel Internet of Things Group. “We’re extremely honored that Ford chose Intel for this critical program, and we look forward to enabling Ford’s connectivity platform in every vehicle going forward.”
Today, all of Ford’s cars and SUVs are built using semiconductors supplied by Intel. The new agreement will use Intel’s gigabit Wi-Fi modem chips to enable Wi-Fi access to in-vehicle networking and Internet of Things technologies.
