Native American tribes are against Joe Biden nomination to be White House official

Barring an eleventh-hour pickle around the White House, Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) has been recommended to replace the outgoing Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) on the board of the Bureau of Land Management in New Mexico.

Biden is getting the nod despite an angry backlash from the Chaco Apaches, a group of Native American tribes whose sacred cave Chaco Canyon is located inside.

“So I was just there. Here we were doing a burial ceremony yesterday,” tribal spokesman Aesop Henderson told FOX News. “To hear you’re looking at a possible vote to overturn our right to have our archeological remains protected by the White House…I found that unfortunate.”

Henderson said Biden’s nomination would give oil companies access to resources in a sensitive area because Chaco Canyon, with its many sites and artifacts, is federally protected.

“[During] a burial ceremony that means, ‘With us there is no other place we go, not under a bridge or a boulder, it’s there,’” Henderson said. “Anything can happen there, so we are asking to have that protected.”

A Biden spokesman did not return FOX News’ calls.
