Two Brampton men have been charged with attempted murder in connection with the stabbing and shooting at a residence in Mississauga, just north of Toronto, on Thursday, police said.

Joseph Marquez, 32, and another man, 51, were taken into custody, as was a fourth suspect, said Const. David Hopkinson, a police spokesman.

In a press conference held early Friday morning, Const. Hopkinson said it is believed that Mr. Marquez and the two other men broke into the home where the deceased man’s father lived. Upon finding the intruders, the man stabbed the intruder before shooting the other three.

Mr. Marquez was initially identified by police as a suspect in the incident, but was later identified as an individual that participated in the subsequent incident at a nearby gas station on Whitby Road. He was arrested for allegedly assaulting the attendant, police said.

Chilliwack Provincial Crown attorney Craig Corbett said that the two men who have been charged with attempted murder and other related offences, including unlawful confinement, will be back in court on May 27.
