The Bayelsa State Chairman of Hope Democratic Party (HDP) who doubles as the South-South Zonal Chairman, Chief Bonus Wumbo has revealed that voting did not take place at Okutukutu-Epie- community at the recently concluded Bayelsa Central Senatorial District Bye-elections in the state.
Chief Wumbo who made this revelation in Okutukutu-Epie community while speaking to newsmen said that over seven thousand registered voters that made up the three polling units in the community were disenfranchised.
According to him, voting was going on smoothly in Okutukutu-Epie until thugs loyal to the Peoples Democratic party PDP seeing that they are losing the election connived with the police and the INEC Presiding Officers to hijacked voting materials to an unknown destination.
He further said that in the process of the thugs trying to scare voters away battered and manhandled one Mathew West, thereby preventing voters not to vote and rendering the election inconclusive.
The Hope Democratic Party Chairman noted that even the agents of the other political parties didn’t sign the units result sheets, saying the aggrieved political parties agents have reported the matter to both the paramount ruler of the community as well as the INEC constituency returning officer that elections did not take place.
He emphasized that no election took place at Okutukutu-Epie community following the disruption of the electoral process and that any results coming from the three units of the community should be voided and rendered inconclusive.
The HDP chairman expressed dismay that elections at the era of our democracy could be hijacked by thugs of a political party, adding that if this undemocratic and barbaric sponsored activities of these politicians in the corridors of power continues the people will continued to be denied the dividends of democracy.
Chief Wumbo took a swipe at the member representing Yenagoa Counstituency I, Hon. Oboku Oforgi whom he fingered of sponsoring youths to cause mayhem in Epie-Atissa kingdom, added that the kingdom has rathered witnessed violent and underdevelopment during the election of Oforgi then any other elected assembly members.
