The Executive Secretary, Bayelsa State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Bekesu Martins has commended the prosperity government of Senator Douye Diri for the timely release of funds to the Board.
Dr. Martins who gave the commendation while speaking to newsmen in his office in Yenagoa, said that the timely release of the counterpart funding by the government has gone a long way in the smooth implementation of the Board’s policies and programme.
He noted that the Board has judiciously utilised funds released so far in the execution of the continuous routine immunization and other health care activities and pleaded for more funds to be released in order to carry on more health care programmes at the rural areas.
The executive secretary explained that the Board is currently carrying out training for front line health worker on COVID-19 response and the Basic Health Care Funds training at the 8 LGAs headquarters which is running concurrently, adding that the National Implementation Intergrated Outreach programme has been halted because of the COVID-19 outbreak because it involves contact with patients.
On the monthly stipends paid to pregnant women by the Board, Dr. Martins lauded the initiative as it is meant to reduce infant mortality and morbidity, save the lives of pregnant women as well as discourage their patronage to traditional birth attendance thereby reducing complications during childbirth and called to continuation of the scheme.
He reiterated the Board’s commitment at ensuring that the primary health care needs of the rural dwellers are meant, saying the present government is more determined to make this a reality owing to the high premium attached to the health of Bayelsans.
