As the Eastern Zone of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) prepares for it’s forthcoming elections to elect the next zonal chairman and leadership of the body. Elders from Nkoro clan, have called on other elders, leaders and stakeholders from the zone, to abide by the February 14th, 2018, peace treaty held at Okochiri Kingdom, at behest of HRM King Ateke Michael Tom JP, in his palace.

The elders believed that for equality, equity, fair play, justice and peace to prevail, Nkoro clan should be supported to produce the next Chairman of the Eastern Zone as it were and not otherwise.

In a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt, Nkoro Clan Chairman, Comr. Sanga Dennis, Elder Patrick Kobringo and Pst. Deme T. Abel, maintained that they were the only clan that has not produced a chairman ever since the zone was created.

They noted that since Comr. Ibim Ibiwari JP, who won an election free and squared in the previous dispensation conceded his chairmanship position to Comr. Samuel George, in the interest of brotherliness and peace, it is only right for the zone to revert to the historic Okochiri Peace Treaty and ensure that Comr. Ibiwari, uninterruptedly emerges as the zonal chairman.

The trio described Comr. Ibim Ibiwari, as a competent, humble, loyal and vibrant young leader who will always seek the wise counsel of the elders when he emerges, noting that he has the capacity to take the zone to the next level and consolidate on the dreams of the founding fathers.

They expressed optimism that the elders, leaders and stakeholders from the other clans shouldn’t encourage the desecration of the revered throne of the Okochiri Kingdom, by going against the peace treaty reached before the cream de la cream of the zone.

The resolution reached at the historic “Okochiri Treaty” reads in part: “After fair hearing, a merger was proposed by the great methusalehic, philanthropic and solomonic monarch, Amayanabo of ancient Okochiri Kingdom, HRM King Ateke Michael Tom JP, Sekuro 1 of Niger Delta.

“The elders, leader and stakeholders of the zone, advised on the contrary that if the proposed merger by the great king was done, crisis will be inevitable, fact been that the two factional executives are of different foundation.

“And that the Comr. Samuel George, led executive should fly as the only recognised executives without any addition whatsoever,  haven been given a majority solidarity from the entirety of the zone.

“After which the Comr. Ibim Ibiwari JP, led executive should emerge without any interference in the next dispensation, which happen to be this era.”

They expressed utmost confidence that their sister clans will abide by the spirit and letter presented by the INC, Nkoro Clan, who intervened to resolving the issues for peace to reign and of the unanimous agreement and resolution of the peace treaty brokered at Okochiri Kingdom, 14th February 2018, at the instance of HRM, King Ateke Michael Tom JP, with Chief, Elders, Leaders and Stakeholders of the IYC, Eastern Zone in attendance.
