As the Eastern Zone of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) prepares for its forthcoming election to elect the next zonal Chairman of the body, Elders from Nkoro Clan have called on other elders, leaders and stakeholders from the zone to abide by the February 14th, 2018 peace treaty held at okichiri at behest of his Royal Majesty King Ateke Michael Tom in his palace.
The elders believed that for equity, fair play and Justice to prevail Nkoro Clan should be supported to produce the next Chairman for the Eastern Zone.
In a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt, Nkoro Clan Chairman, Comr. Sanga Dennis and elders Patrick Kobringo and Pst. Deme Abel maintained that their clan was the only Clan that has not produced a chairman ever since the zone was created.
They noted that since Comr. Ibim Ibiwari who won the election free and square conceded the chairmanship position to Comr. Samuel George in the interest of peace and brotherliness, it is only right for the Zone to revert to the historic Okochiri Peace Treaty and ensure that Comr. Ibiwari emerges as the zonal Chairman.
The trio described Comr. Ibim Ibiwari as a humble, loyal and a competent young leader who will always seek the advice of the elders if elected, noting that he has the capacity to take the zone to the next level and consolidate on the dreams of the founding fathers.
They expressed optimism that the elders from the other clans will not desecrate the revered throne of the Okochiri monarch by going against the peace treaty reached at Okochiri Kingdom.
The resolution reached at the historic Okochiri treaty reads in part: ” that the Comr. Samuel George led executive should fly as the only Eastern Zone recognized executive.
“After which the Comr. Ibim Ibiwari led executive should emerge without any interference in the next dispensation.”
They expressed utmost confidence that their sister clans will abide by the spirit and letter of the unanimous agreement and resolution of the peace treaty brokered at Okochiri on 14th, February 2018 at the instance of His Royal Majesty, King Ateke Michael Tom with Chiefs, Elders, Leaders and Stakeholders of the IYC Eastern Zone in attendance.
