Following the incidence of October 20, 2020 at the LEKKI TOLL GATE in Lagos, fingering the Nigerian Army for allegedly shooting live rounds ammunition at the Peaceful #ENDSARS Protesters, killing several people, ViocesCanBeHeard has written a petition to the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria over the onslaught on defenseless youths engaged peaceful protests.
The VoicesCanBeHeard regretted that over one hundred people have been killed and a lot more have been injured in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Benin, Asaba, Jos, Aba and several other cities and towns by either The Nigerian Police Force, The Nigerian Army and State Sponsored Thugs.
VoicesCanBeHeard (a non-governmental organization) is demanding that the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria COMPENSATES the families of MURDERED VICTIMS of the Peaceful #ENDSARS Protests the sum of Thirty Million Naira each (N30,000,000). The families of the deceased confront not only personal grief, but total loss of family income as most of the slain are bread winners of their families.
The NGO is also demanding that the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria pay the sum of Ten Million Naira each (10,000,000) as compensation to the INJURED VICTIMS, pay for their medical bills and also pay for therapy to enable them get their lives back together.
The ViocesCanBeHeard noted that the physiological damage experienced by the victims of this gruesome onslaught of violence carried out by the perpetrators will lead to depression, anxiety disorders, psychological trauma and many more challenges for the surviving victims, their families and the families of our FALLEN HEROES of the #ENDSARS movement is grievious as the SCARS of this carnage can never truly be healed.
It noted further that there are financial burdens that surviving victims, their families and the families of deceased victims cannot meet any longer due to this act of evil.
The NGO stated that “those who are permanently maimed or mutilated will find it difficult to survive in Nigeria with little or no help from family members. Continuing costs of long term surgical treatment and physical therapy/permanent disability will force career change. Many of these victims are impecunious people who survive through skillful jobs on a daily basis, they depend on their talents for income and can no longer fend for themselves”.
While urging all well meaning Nigerians to sign this petition so that the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will comply to this demand, it reminded that Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria provides amongst other things that: Every person shall be entitled to assemble freely and associate with other persons. The CONSTITUTIONAL AND CIVIL RIGHTS of the victims to peaceful assembly in Nigeria was gravely violated, THEIR RIGHT TO LIFE violently taken away from them, and so THEY MUST BE COMPENSATED.
