Ohanaeze Ndigbo the apex umbrella body of Ibos resident in Bayelea State has elected Comrade Onuma Johnson as its President to pilot the affairs of the socio-cultural organization for the next four years.
The election held under the supervision of election observers and security agencies saw Comrade Onuma defeating his closed rival Emmanuel Ndionye by landslide.
Declaring the result, the Eleco chairman, Henry Emeka said Comrade Onuma scored 95 votes out of 110 accredited voters while Comrade Emmanuel Ndionye scored 15 votes.
According to the Eleco chairman, Comrade Onuma Johnson having satisfied the electoral guideline and scored the highest number of votes cast has emerged winner of the election.
Dr. Emeka thanked all the contestants and the voters for their peaceful disposition during and after the election and enjoined the winner to carry everybody along in the scheme of things.
He called on the new leadership of the body to to rally the Ibos resident in state to leave in harmony with Bayelsans and non Bayelsans for peaceful coexistence.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected President, Comrade Onuma Johnson unfold his developmental agenda which according to him centres on unity, peace and promotion of the culture of the Ndigbos.
Comrade Onuma noted that the days of rancour and bitterness are over and called on the losers to join hands with him to take the Ohanaeze Ndigbo to greater heights.
Also speaking, the out going President, Chief Amaku Chinedu lauded the Ndigbos for ensuring the election was peaceful and urged the new President to build on the achievements of the predecessor.
Those elected are: Chief Chris Alatu Deputy President, Mr. Emmanuel Onyeka Secretary, Prince Mike Nlem Public Relations Officer and Chief Patrick Ugwu Chief Security Officer.
Other positions vied for we’re declared unopposed.
