In preparatory for the Central and West Senatorial Districts Bye-elections in Bayelea State, the Nigeria Police said it has deployed at least 5000 police officers to provide security to ensure a violent-free polls.
The Bayelea State Commissioner of Police, CP Mike Okoli disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the Command’s preparedness towards a peaceful elections.
According to CP Okoli, the command is fully prepared in terms of manpower and logistics and the the manpower is enough to cover all the polling units in the two Senatorial Districts.
He said the 5000 personnel comprised of armed personnel of the 10 police mobile units who will be at the outer ring to checkmate the activities of hoodlums who would want to disrupt the elections, while the unarmed police officers will be at the polling units.
The Commissioner of Police noted that in to ensure a seamless polls there will be vehicle restriction of movement between the 6:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, adding that the command has directed its personnel to allow all those writing the WASSE examination a free pass without restrictions.
Okoli appealed to Bayelsans to ensure that they are peaceful in their conduct and come out to vote for candidates of their chioce, warning trouble makers to stay clear of the vicinity of the elections as the police is ready to guarrantee the safety of the electorates.
